Remarkable old Bourbon rose dating to 1868. Remarkable for fragrance and bright cerise pink flowers, and best of all, thornless canes -- it's people friendly! Not strictly a climber, but a mannerly climber.
Zephirin Drouhin is planted in a low water-use location.
In Sun or part shade. Rose Garden, Along a fence or trellis, at the back of a border.
The only maintenance is spring pruning out of old canes. One of the best qualities of old roses is their ability to survive with little care; Zephirin Drouhin is one of the best for our area. I have never noticed aphids or any other problem with it, and only add compost as a mulch once a year.
